How do you feel as regards Chinese traditional medicine using tiger and rhino parts for healing?

traditional chinese medicine

Besides the killing of tens of millions of sharks each year just to harvest their fins for soup and throwing the rest away the Chinese continue to use tiger parts, rhino parts and the parts of other rapidly declining species for their traditional medicine. I consider the Chinese to be among the most selfish people on earth. As long as they get theirs the hell with the rest of the animal kingdom! What are your thoughts?

    Disgusting
    pointless
    and it doesnt even work
we should start using Chinese for medicines

I have to say that if I was dying of something and I thought a pinch of powdered rhino horn or tiger bits would cure me, I would be sorely tempted to try it.

Who knows – hopefully there will be a turnaround where the tigers and rhinos become seriously protected in order to ensure that there will be tiger and rhino bits available in the future. (I guess it would be too much to ask for if I started speculating about only using parts of animals that had died of natural causes.)

Sorry, don’t believe that God would want us to destroy an animal for “health reasons”.

my thoughts are they shouldn’t be killing to satisfy their needs and beliefs in this day and age surely they could find something else to use those animals are precious and should be preserved for future generations maybe that’s why we have tourists coming to see our animals, could you imagine if started using kangaroo tails and chucking the rest away or koalas ears they would think we were monsters or something gotta wonder

WHO are we to judge. You and I probably do and use things that the Chinese find offensive. Live and Let live. Everyones Culture is different. Change the things you can, Accept the things you cant. Ed

I would pose the question a little differently. Tiger and rhino parts are very rare and extremely expensive. While they are a part of traditional Chinese medicine, only the most wealthy can afford them. What wealthy Chinese share with the wealthy elsewhere is a belief that rules don’t apply to them, and that they are entitled to anything they can pay for. So my question is, how do we rein in the destructive appetities of the wealthy?

I am in full agreement with you. not to mention the last thing China and Japan need are aphrodisiacs. LOL

I think as long as the animal dies of natural causes it’s ok to use the parts, but I don’t think we should kill them for our own benefits.

The Chinese still have one foot planted firmly in the 19th century.

I avoid buying Chinese-made products when possible. That’s how I feel.

well i think your info is a load a of crap, there are also people around the world that does this, in the US people kill cows, chicken, pigs, etc., if we were that selfish then we wouldnt be trying to save extinct animals and continue breeding them…if it werent for china the US would be half dead probably, you wouldnt have alot of things if it werent for us, think about that smart ass

If ‘traditional medicines’ actually work, what are all the users going to do when the source runs out? (and that day is coming quickly for tigers and rhinos) Would they turn to an alternative- like, I dunno, Viagara? And if that’s the case, why not use the alternative now? Just because something is a tradition doesn’t make it correct, either factually, or ethically.
